The future of mobility is software-defined!

Details
For this edition of our automotive software development meetup, we will have Andy and Dirk (both from Bosch) with us to present yet another project of the Eclipse Software-defined vehicle initiative.
Abstract
Software is more and more dominating the daily life, also in the automotive world, but the automotive industry was and is still centering around the hardware of vehicles and the corresponding hardware development and life-cycle management. The vehicle and its value to the customer is increasingly defined by software. This transition towards the so-called software-defined vehicles changes the way:
• how to innovate
• how to code
• how to deliver and
• how to work together
It is a change across the entire value chain and the entire life cycle of mobility: from development and production to delivery and operation of the vehicle.
But how to create in-vehicle applications for the software defined vehicle?
The projects of the Eclipse Software-defined Vehicle Working Group (SDV) provide a consistent, scalable, and modular tool chain for the development of containerised in-vehicle applications (vehicle apps) to build up a comfortable, fast, and efficient development experience to increase the speed of a development team.
This developer experience also contains a quick-starter image on a virtual and physical device (you heard about Eclipse Leda) to create a base integration platform for all SDV in-vehicle software parts, building a prototyping environment and at least an ecosystem, which is available for all developers. The SDV Landscape, which shows the full extent of Eclipse SDV open-source projects, is currently under creation. It defines certain areas of interests or capabilities of the Eclipse SDV Working Group and maps associated projects to these areas of interest or capabilities.
Dirk Bangel is in the technical strategy team at the Mobility Company of Bosch. He has a degree in Computer Science at the University of Technology Köln (Cologne) and he has been working for the past 5 years at Bosch in several locations and positions. Dirk published two books, Data Science in a Nutshell and Myth in AI.
Since end of 2016, Andy Riexinger is working in the area of open source in automotive in the Robert Bosch Group. He worked in different areas for the Robert Bosch GmbH for 25 years, in which he has collected experience in the development of embedded software and management of IT projects as well as in autonomous driving technologies. In his current role as a Senior Software Architect for the software-defined vehicle, Andy will talk about future development opportunities.
