Details
PLEASE READ EVERYTHING HERE..the game has changed!
We will be paddling at Avila. The outing is suitable for beginners and novices.
RENTERS: rentals are limited to 4 for the event, and renters must make reservations ONLINE with Avila Beach Paddlesports for a 9:00 a.m. spot PRIOR to your RSVP. Phone reservations are not accepted. Renters, please read all the perinent information at their on-line reservation website listed below. Your RSVP to the event does not constitute your guarantee of a rental reservation. They are limited, and it is first-come, first-served. Also, rental reservations are for 2 hours, no more, and ABP can no longer support discounts for club members as they struggle to stay afloat.
All that said, Let's plan to get out on the water!! SUP, Sit-On-Top, OC, or Sit-inside; all welcome. Spaces are limited, so if you sign up and can't go, please don't forget to change your RSVP before the 'last minute'. I won't see any changes or messages after 6:00 a.m. the morning of the event.
All participants, SUPs included, are expected to WEAR their PFD. No exceptions. Members with their own craft and gear may bring up to ONE guest if desired, but please include them in your RSVP.
Caveat: Weather can decide to come along without an RSVP. In the event of rain, high wind or other unsafe water conditions, we will cancel the event. Be prepared for that to happen up to 8:00 a.m. the 'morning of'. I arrive early enough to post here by 8:00 if we have to cancel at the last minute.
If weather holds, plan to arrive in the Port SLO no later than 9:00 a.m. Paddles wet no later than 9:30, earlier if everyone who was there by 9:00 is on the water. Late arrivals will have to play catch-up. It is likely to be cool in the morning so wear appropriate gear. Sunscreen, water and a hat are always advised.
Be sure to have required safety equipment and meet us on Fisherman's Beach before 9:00 and we'll get our boats and boards set up. It is not cool to launch your personal kayak or SUP at the boat hoist, as it gets congested and causes ill will with fishermen who have to pay for it's use.
Renters..arrive a few minuters earlier than 9 so that the staff can get you set up.
A brief safety/meet/greet will be held on the water in the little kelp bed just off shore from Fisherman's Beach launch area.
We'll paddle around the bay, direction depending on conditions. A landing on Lighthouse Beach is possible for those who would like to hike up there.
Some folks will likely enjoy lunch locally afterward at one of the fine nearby restaurants, and the brand new MERMAID MARKET is now open for coffee/snacks/ etc in the space next to Avila Beach Paddlesports.
This is a great opportunity for you to make new acquaintances and set up conversations for future outings on your own. Total distance: 4-6 miles, about 2 hours total time away from the launch point. Who's IN?
