Please read everything here:
We will be paddling at Santa Margarita Lake. Paddles wet at 9:00 a.m. so you must arrive before that time to get set up.
Be prepared to handle your own boat and gear for loading/unloading/launching. BYO hand sanitizer if you think you’ll need to use the restroom. No after-paddle lunch will be scheduled as a group. That said, feel free to partake of local eateries as you feel safe enough to do so.
As always, participants are expected to have their equipment in sound usable condition, be able to handle changing atmospheric and aquatic conditions, have self-rescue skills, and to be able to deal with normal landing/launching from a shoreline. Some wind is likely.
This outing is for members with their own equipment. Rentals are not available at the launch site, and pursuant to park rules, SUP are not permitted at SML.
Everyone in our meetup group is required to WEAR their PFD. No exceptions.
This is a county park and there is a fee: $10.00 for your vehicle, plus $5 per kayak.
We'll launch from White Oak day use area no later than 9:00 a.m. Get there early enough to be on the water by that time.
This outing will be suitable for novices, but expect faster paddlers to pull out ahead. Total distance will be 6-8 miles, and total time on the water about 2 hours. We will plan to land back at White Oak before 11:00 a.m.
The lake is at 62% capacity. Have gear appropriate for high 50’s temps to start, and mid to high 70’s to low 80's by noon. Wind is always possible, but seldom a problem at SML. It should be a nice day.
Be sure that your boat has been washed and thoroughly dried if on your last time out you had it in any other California lake. There are regulations regarding the quagga mussel that may require you to be inspected.
Pack your boats, gear, snacks, drinks, water, cameras etc. (No alcoholic beverages, please,) and LET'S GO !
