About us
AWS AI UG is a practitioner-led community for engineers, builders, data and ML practitioners, architects, and technical leaders working with AI, ML, and generative AI on AWS.
We focus on how AI systems are designed, deployed, governed, and operated in real-world environments — from LLMs and agents to MLOps, data platforms, and production delivery on AWS.
We run:
• Bi-monthly in-person meetups in London
• Bi-monthly online events across the UK, North America and APAC
• One online global AWS AI conference each year
Whether you’re hands-on with AWS AI services, experimenting with generative AI, leading platform or data teams, or just starting your journey, you’re very welcome here.
Our events explore:
• AI & ML on AWS — real-world architecture, operations and delivery
• Generative AI, agents, RAG & applied use-cases
• MLOps, LLMOps and production readiness
• Data platforms, governance and responsibility
• Developer experience, performance, cost and reliability
• Lessons learned, demos and practical case studies
This community is part of the Community Stack Ecosystem, meaning members can also discover and join our wider communities across Cloud, Data & AI, DevOps, Open Source, Leadership, meaning members can also discover and join our wider communities across Cloud, Data & AI, DevOps, Open Source, Leadership, and more.
Members are automatically subscribed to our weekly community newsletter via Meetup, where we share upcoming events, speaker opportunities, learning resources and ecosystem updates. Selected talks and highlights are also shared via our YouTube channel.
We’re always looking for:
• Speakers — talks, lightning sessions, demos and case studies
• Hosts — organisations able to support community venues
• Sponsors — food, refreshments, recording or accessibility support
• Collaborators — AWS community builders, meetups and open-source projects
If you’d like to speak, sponsor, host, or get involved, please reach out via Meetup or contact Ethan Sumner on LinkedIn.

AWS AI UG #5 - Online - Data & Valkey
·OnlineOnline18 attendees from 4 groupsHello and welcome to our next AWS AI UG meetup.
This event brings together engineers, builders, data and ML practitioners, architects, and leaders working with AI, ML, and generative AI on AWS.
Our meetups are friendly, welcoming, and community-driven; everyone is welcome, whether you’re experienced or just starting your AWS AI journey. This session will include practitioner talks, demos, Q&A, and time for networking with like-minded peers.
We run bi-monthly in-person meetups in London, bi-monthly online events across the UK, North America and APAC, and one online global AWS AI conference each year. Food and refreshments will be provided for in-person events where a host venue is supporting.
We are delighted to host this event online on the 11th of May.
Speakers and Sessions:
Speaker: Phil Basford, Head of Data & AI Consulting at Cognizant
Session Title: Intelligent Document Processing on AWS
Description: The insurance industry has billions of historical documents; with hundreds of thousands more being generated every day. The documents, in varying formats are used both internally and with other insurers to agree terms, assess risk and create accurate quotes. Historically each document can take a few hours or even days to manually process and needs to be loaded into each company’s systems. AI is helping several companies to reduce this processing time to minutes by automating the process using Intelligent Document Processing (IDP), saving time, increasing the accuracy, and readying the data for further analysis - giving valuable insights back to the business. IDP uses the latest AI services; Amazon’s Bedrock, Textract to extract text, Amazon Comprehend to classify and detect entries in the documents and custom models with labelled grown truth in SageMaker. This architecture will look at these services alongside the pre-processing, processing, and post processing challenges and showcase how to jointly leverage these services for the best success.
Using IDP, one customer achieved an accuracy of 90%+ and a more than 500x reduction in processing time across over £500 million worth of businessSpeaker: Robert Luna, Senior Developer Advocate (Open Source & Valkey) at AWS
Session Title: Turbo-charge your SQL application with automatic query caching
Description: Modern Java applications built on relational databases often face a common challenge: as application traffic grows, read queries become the dominant source of database load. This is especially true for frequently accessed but infrequently updated data. Often times those queries require joins and aggregations across large data sets to fetch just a few rows of results. This can be very resource constraint and may even lead to performance issues. AWS Advanced JDBC wrapper presents a solution to this challenge by allowing caching query results from expensive and repetitive read queries to an in-memory cache like Valkey. You can dramatically reduce database load and improve query latency while maintaining or even improving application performance.Agenda (GMT / UK):
