## Architecture Kata Night — Think Like an Architect!
If you've ever wondered what those architects that keep messing up the engineers plans do, tonight is the night to find out as you become an architect.
🏗️ Architecture Kata Night — Think Like an Architect!
This month, AWS Cloud Women is doing something a little different — and a lot of fun. Roll up your sleeves for an Architecture Kata! 💪
Borrowed from the world of martial arts, a "kata" is a hands-on practice exercise. It's a chance to take a realistic customer brief and design a solution — making the trade-offs, defending the decisions, and thinking on your feet, all in a supportive, low-stakes environment.
Here's how the evening works:
- We'll split into small teams
- Each team gets a real-world design challenge (kept under wraps until the night! 🤫)
- You'll work through the requirements, make architectural decisions, and weigh the trade-offs
- Teams present their thinking — and we discuss, challenge, and learn together
Of course being an architect is hungry work, so we'll provide pizza and soe refreshments.
Who's this for? Everyone! Whether you're a seasoned architect or you've never drawn a box-and-arrow diagram in your life, this is about how you think, not what you already know. You'll learn to ask the right questions, surface hidden requirements, and reason about constraints like scale, cost, and reliability.
This is an easy going evening, join in as much or as little as your comfortable with, but I'm sure you'll want to help out your team to solve the puzzles.
There will be plenty of experienced AWS folks in the room to help out on the night, so don't worry, it will all be fine.
No laptops required — just bring your curiosity and a willingness to debate. ✏️
