July - Doing 'cloud' correctly will cost you less

Details
Welcome to July's edition of AWS User Group Leeds!
This meetup is kindly sponsored by BJSS, who will be providing the venue, food and drink.
We have two great talks lined up for you:
Why you are using Lambda wrong: comparing monolithic vs microservice architectures for AWS API workloads
Aiden Vaines, Principal Technologist at BJSS
Daniel Yip, Software Engineer at BJSS
Clickbait titles aside; some experimentation and recap of common microservice architectural decisions we’ve seen teams and engineers making. Some consciously and some without realising the alternative approaches.
We’ll cover some of those misconceptions and the results of a small scale experimentation we conducted with some results we found interesting.
DevOps on a budget - my journey of migrating to AWS with a 2k budget
Ethan Sumner, Principal Consultant at Contino & organiser of Yorkshire DevOps
Ethan will discuss how to create a DevOps mindset and adoption of DevOps tools and principles in an SME or Startup using Open source, FinOps and the cloud, showcasing just how far you can go on a budget and how accessible DevOps is to everyone, no matter the size of your organisation. Utilising past experience leading a DevOps transformation for an SME on a strict budget, technical debt and resistant leadership, this talk contains first-hand experience on just how powerful adopting DevOps is.

Code of Conduct
Like a large number of other communities, we have an anti harassment policy and code of conduct, in order to support the inclusive nature of our events. Please view here. It is necessary for all attendees, speakers, sponsors and volunteers at any AWS User Group Leeds event to agree with the code of conduct.
Helping with diversity and inclusivity
The organising team for AWS User Group Leeds are keen to promote diversity and inclusivity, in terms of speakers, how events are run, and the composition of the organising team. If you would like to contribute to this aim, particularly if you think you have experiences that you might not consider to be typical for the majority of the tech community, we would be really excited to talk with you at the event.
