June: Building Event Based Systems on AWS

Details
Welcome to the June 2025 edition of AWS User Group Leeds. We're at Accenture Next Gen Engineering.
Chris Dobson: Streamlining an Event-Driven Architecture: A real world transformation
If we are not careful as an event driven architecture matures it can evolve into something resembling the well documented ‘big ball of mud’.
This talk will look at how Chris' team has been transforming a production EDA. It will show how a sparsely documented set of AWS SNS topics used to publish and consume cross-domain events have been transformed into an architecture exhibiting discoverability, governance and observability while continuing to run in production without any data loss.
Damien Jones: Step On It! Rapid Event-Based AWS Cost Control With Step Functions
Managing cloud costs effectively isn't just about cutting expenses; it's about building smart, adaptable systems that respond to events in real time. In this talk, we'll explore how event-based architectures can transform how you monitor, manage and optimise cloud spend, spotlighting AWS services like Step Functions, CloudTrail and EventBridge.

It is necessary for all attendees, speakers, sponsors and volunteers at any AWS User Group Leeds event to agree with the code of conduct.
Helping with diversity and inclusivity
The organising team for AWS User Group Leeds are keen to promote diversity and inclusivity, in terms of speakers, how events are run, and the composition of the organising team. If you would like to contribute to this aim, particularly if you think you have experiences that you might not consider to be typical for the majority of the tech community, we would be really excited to talk with you at the event.
