Docker: Zero to Pro - Containers, Images, Volumes, Networking & Compose
Details
Most students can copy a Docker command from a tutorial. Few can explain why a container loses its data on restart, or debug a build that won't cache properly. This half-day workshop closes that gap - a fully hands-on session that takes you from zero Docker knowledge to running a real, multi-service production-style stack.
You'll cover container fundamentals (what a container actually is vs a VM), writing your own multi-stage Dockerfiles, managing data with volumes, connecting services over custom networks, and orchestrating everything with Docker Compose - capped off by building a live React + FastAPI + PostgreSQL stack that comes up with a single command.
This is for anyone who wants to walk into a hackathon, an internship, or their own project able to containerize and deploy confidently - not just copy-paste a Dockerfile. By the end, you'll understand the "why" behind every command, not just the command itself.
What you'll walk away with:
- A real mental model of containers, images, and layers - not just commands
- A production-ready, multi-stage Dockerfile you wrote yourself
- Hands-on experience with volumes, networking, and debugging broken builds
- A full multi-service stack running via Docker Compose
- A clear path forward into Kubernetes and CI/CD
- An AWS Certificate of Participation and exclusive AWS swag
Come prepared: This is a hands-on, laptop-required session - bring your own laptop with Docker Desktop already installed, So the session isn't held up by setup. Also make sure you have a code editor (VS Code recommended).
