re:Turn - Building AWS Cloud-Connected Homes

Needs a location

Hey all you Cloud Developers, and anyone interested in learning more about Cloud Innovation and “The Connected Home,” take note!

After a two+ year hiatus due to the pandemic, we are re-launching the AWS Southern Maine AWS User Group. After working remotely for all these months, we are all excited to meet with others in our field and learn more about all the Cloud innovation happening right here in Maine!

Please join us Wednesday, June 29th as we celebrate our re:Turn to the AWS Southern Maine User’s Group with a deep dive into building AWS-connected Homes!

A team of engineers will showcase and discuss their project: Building an AWS Cloud-Connected System of Devices & Sensors Specifically Designed for New Residential Construction.

This system as a whole provides a bridge for intelligent automation, diagnostics, service, visibility and analytics.
A connected home is visualized through three portals:

  • A whole-home control kiosk, right in the home
  • A cloud dashboard for remote operation and deep analytics
  • An XR app for full immersion

A primary controller and a network of devices lives in the home, continuously powered over Ethernet, and integrated into otherwise inaccessible places – underground, in the footer, inside the wall cavity, attic spaces, etc. All of the devices securely stream information to local instances and up in AWS.

In the cloud, AWS technologies analyze the real-time telemetry and analytics of the home and enable remote management, resource management, risk management, and bi-directional communication, including transactional response, error code transmission and a level of automation and home intelligence beyond what is achievable using ‘retrofit’ devices. This system design attempts to incorporate best practices from AWS, DevOps, and software engineering as a whole.
The team will present their (evolving) project and discuss the challenges, the tremendous promise, and the pure fun of bringing Cloud technology to residential homes.

This event will be hosted in the newly-opened offices of VividCloud in Brunswick landing. The building features state-of-the-art air filtering capabilities, and the event will take place in a large room that opens to a large, outdoor patio. In addition, we will stream this event online for those who cannot attend in person. Once again, we will actively track the COVID numbers as we approach this event and make any changes necessary.

Time and Location:
Wednesday, June 29th, 6:00 pm
150 Admiral Fitch Avenue, Brunswick
Food and beverages will be provided
