Recap of re:Invent 2023 with community demos

Details

It's time for a re:Invent 2023 recap and as we announced a few weeks back, we're trying out a new format where we invite speakers from the community to demo specific product launches or announcements.

We now have five speakers who will run demos on a variety of services:

Demo 1: Zonal autoshift – Automatically shift your traffic away from Availability Zones when we detect potential issues (15 min)
AWS has launched "Zonal AutoShift" as part of the Amazon Route 53 Application Recovery Controller, which automatically redirects traffic away from AWS Availability Zones experiencing potential issues, such as power or network disruptions. This feature ensures continuous application availability by adjusting the load balancer to route new connections to healthy zones. Zonal AutoShift, which requires pre-configuration and sufficient capacity in all zones, is aimed at enhancing application uptime and resilience against zone-specific failures.

Speaker: Mahmoud Shiri Varamini, ALTEN (LinkedIn)

Demo 2: Amazon Cognito user pools now support the ability to customize access tokens (15 min)
Amazon Cognito user pools now support the ability to enrich access tokens with custom attributes in the form of OAuth 2.0 scopes and claims. You can make application-specific advanced authorization decisions using custom attributes in the access token. This feature also allows you to personalize end-user experiences and improve customer engagement.

Speaker: Thomas Cannervall, Qred (LinkedIn)

Demo 3: Amazon Q generative SQL is now available in Amazon Redshift Query Editor (preview) (15 min)
Amazon Redshift introduces Amazon Q generative SQL in Amazon Redshift Query Editor, an out-of-the-box web-based SQL editor for Redshift, to simplify query authoring and increase your productivity by allowing you to express queries in natural language and receive SQL code recommendations. Furthermore, it allows you to get insights faster without extensive knowledge of your organization’s complex database metadata.

Speaker: Sepehr (Sepi) Mohammadi, Qred (LinkedIn)

Demo 4 & 5: AWS Step Functions launches support for HTTPS endpoints and a new TestState API (15+15 min)
AWS Step Functions announces support for HTTPS endpoints, so you can now integrate with virtually any SaaS application directly from your workflows. In addition, AWS Step Functions launches a new TestState API to test a single step in your workflow, that helps accelerate development so you can deploy new features fast.

We'll split this announcement into two demos. First, Jimmy Dahlqvist will demo the new HTTP endpoints feature and the good-to-know caveats is comes with.

After that, Lars Jacobsson will demo the TestState API and how you can use his open source tool samp-cli to accelerate development and testing of your states.

Speakers:
Jimmy Dahlqvist, Sigma Technology Cloud | AWS Ambassador | AWS Community Builder (LinkedIn / X)
Lars Jacobsson, Mathem | AWS Community Builder (LinkedIn / X)
