Welcome to our 1st AWS Sydney Well Architected User Group Meetup for 2025, including more exceptional speakers and topics! :-D

At each meetup we covered off various pillars in detail, best-practices and insights from industry leaders that specialise in the Well-Architected Framework.

And giving away drones, of course. Lots of drones.

We're excited to announce three speakers again for this month!

  • Daniel Roth, Solutions Engineer, Plerion

My Top 5 WTF moments after 30 AWS security assessments

Last year Plerion helped run security reviews across 30+ AWS customers the results was a mix bag of unsurprising common misconfigurations along with some absolute head scratchers. From notifications from the other side of the world to good ole’ open s3 buckets, Daniel will look back on the anonymised data of the top five things to keep an eye out for.

  • Stephen Hogarth, Associate Director - AWS Practice Lead, NCS Australia

Security: The things you need to know but were never told

Stephen will cover off the Security Pillar of Well-Architected, including the things you really need to know but were never told around:
* Keeping things simple
* Keeping it Secure - Network Security
* Native AWS services you might not think were for Security
* Systems Manager – a tool to “Protect and Serve”

  • Mystery Speaker

Automating all Well-Architected Pillars

Sure, you can automate best-practice in the Security pillar, but what about across all the other pillars of best-practice? Now that it’s mandatory to automate Well-Architected Framework Reviews, we cover off what can and can’t (yet) be automated in infrastructure and code.

This month's menu will include:

  • Pizzas
  • Beer: Nastro Azzuro
  • Wine: Big and red 🤤

NB: Please enter by Kent St and go to Level 8 to check in.

So come join us at 5:30 for a 6pm SHARP start, followed by beer, wine, pizza and networking after our talks :-)
