Welcome to the next 2025 AWS Sydney Well-Architected User Group Meetup!

Details

Hi Architects,

Welcome to our next AWS Sydney Well-Architected User Group Meetup for 2025, including more exceptional speakers and topics! :-D

At each meetup we covered off various pillars in detail, best-practices and insights from industry leaders that specialise in the Well-Architected Framework.

And giving away drones, of course. Lots of drones.

This month we welcome back another one of our most popular speakers, Ben Potter, ex-AWS Well-Architected Security Pillar Global Lead and now leading cloud decoy company Fircy.co CEO!

Hack Me If You Can: A Deep Dive into Web App Defences + Active Defence
Ben Potter (ex AWS Well-Architected Security Pillar Leader) has been involved in web application security for many years, and even helped the AWS WAF team for the service launch back in November 2015! He's going to take us through the journey of web app security in AWS including API's, with more demo's than slides. Services he will go deep into are AWS WAF, CloudFront, API Gateway and ALB, with integrations featuring Lambda. He'll show you how active defence works (blocking something safely and automatically) with the product integration he has built for FIRCY.

  • Lovee Jain, Senior Software Engineer, Prezzee

API Destinations for Private Endpoints: From Oversight to Insight
In this talk, Lovee will cover off everything from Operational Excellence to Security and Reliability and go through a real-world design challenge she faced while syncing data from a monolith to a microservice. She’ll share the different approaches explored and highlight how EventBridge API Destinations simplify event-driven integrations. However, API Destinations were historically limited to public endpoints—until AWS re:Invent changed that!

AWS Marketplace Enablement the Well-Architected Way
The AWS Marketplace is a vital goal for every Independent Software Vendor (ISV) in AWS. In this talk, we explore how Well-Architected dovetails into the Foundational Technical Review (FTR) that is required by every ISV to sell on AWS Marketplace and how you can automate the process to accelerate listing.

This month's menu will include:

  • Pizzas
  • Beer: Nastro Azzuro
  • Wine: Big and red 🤤

***NB: Please enter via Kent St***

So come join us at 5:30 for a 6pm SHARP start, followed by beer, wine, pizza and friendly networking after our talks :-)
