Storyline
Today marks an exciting new chapter for Unicorn Rentals. We have just completed a major acquisition of the startup RentMyUnicorns. RentMyUnicorns CEO Jeff Barr shared the incredible growth of his business over the past few years, with booming revenue that ultimately led to the acquisition. However, as their assets and traffic increased, so did their infrastructure costs. Without the team or time to optimize, costs started to skyrocket.

Now that RentMyUnicorns is part of the Unicorn Rentals family, it is our responsibility to get their cloud costs under control. The CFO sees this as a great opportunity despite the financial challenge it poses currently. Decreasing RentMyUnicorns' cloud costs will be key to unlocking the full potential of this acquisition. Our CTO has plans to get us back on track financially. We're incentivizing our newly hired engineers to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) while keeping production running smoothly. The acquisition may have depleted our reserves briefly, however, successful integration of RentMyUnicorns puts us on the path to future growth and expanded market share. Exciting times are ahead!

Education Objective
The main objective of this GameDay is to introduce and educate participants to a wide range of cost efficiency strategies in AWS. To achieve this we provide an unbounded builder experience centered around improving the cost efficiency of applications and their configurations - with a focus on resolving commonly seen cost efficiency anti-patterns.

Scoring
The ultimate goal of this GameDay is to reduce the cloud unit cost and become profitable without impacting service quality. During the GameDay, each team will dispatch rides that generate equally random revenue per team. As the teams progress with tasks and reduce the cloud unit cost, they will be able to increase their profit margin.
