Title: From Import-Time Transformation to Query-Time Views: Scaling Product Feed Ingestion with MongoDB and AWS
Abstract: Product feeds rarely arrive in a consistent format. Each customer publishes product information using different schemas, structures, and conventions, while downstream applications require a standardized product model.
In this session, we will explore the architecture of a product feed importer built with [Node.js](http://node.js/) microservices, AWS Lambda, Amazon S3, Amazon SQS, Amazon DynamoDB, and MongoDB. The platform monitors product feed publications in customer environments, imports product data into MongoDB, and makes it available to a bundling API that dynamically generates product bundles based on a requested SKU.
A central challenge in the solution was deciding where to transform customer-specific product data into a standardized internal model. Initially, these mappings were applied during ingestion. As feed sizes and transformation complexity increased, this approach began to significantly affect import performance and processing time.
We will discuss how the architecture evolved by moving these transformations from the ingestion pipeline into MongoDB views, allowing raw product documents to be stored more quickly while applying the standardized representation at query time.
The presentation will cover the motivations behind this decision, the resulting trade-offs between write-time and read-time processing, the role of MongoDB views in the solution, and the lessons learned when balancing ingestion performance, query complexity, maintainability, and scalability in an event-driven AWS architecture.

Abstract: What does it take to turn a pile of PDFs into an intelligent, tenant-aware chatbot -- without managing a single server? In this session, we share the journey of building FitBot, an AI assistant for gym chains that answers questions about schedules, pricing, and policies using only the gym's own documents. We explore how Amazon Textract extracts content, how Step Functions orchestrate the pipeline, how MongoDB Atlas Vector Search stores and retrieves embeddings, and how Bedrock Agents tie it all together into a conversational experience. We also dive into the practical challenges: multi-tenancy isolation, incremental document updates, and keeping infrastructure costs near zero with a fully event-driven architecture.

We'll then see how the transactional outbox pattern, implemented with OutboxKit and MongoDB, helps reliably bridge the gap between data changes and event publishing. Along the way, we'll share practical lessons, trade-offs, and tips for building more resilient distributed systems.
