Session 2: Serverless Media Workflows for FAST Channels using AWS Elemental Services by Luis Valdivia CTO at +1 SAC

Abstract:
FAST (Free Ad-Supported Television) channels are rapidly emerging as a scalable and cost-effective way to deliver linear content experiences without requiring subscription models.
In this session, we’ll explore how to build a serverless pipeline that takes video-on-demand (VOD) assets uploaded to Amazon S3, automatically encodes them into adaptive bitrate (ABR) streaming formats using AWS Elemental MediaConvert, and registers the processed content as a MediaTailor Source Location ready for use in a FAST channel workflow.
We’ll walk through the end-to-end architecture:

• VOD asset ingest via Amazon S3
• Serverless triggering and orchestration using Amazon SQS and AWS Lambda
• Automated transcoding and packaging with AWS Elemental MediaConvert
• Publishing ABR outputs to S3 for scalable distribution
• Dynamic Source Location registration in AWS MediaTailor to enable VOD2Live and FAST scheduling

By the end of this session, you’ll understand how to build a fully automated, serverless, and scalable content preparation pipeline suitable for channel assembly and ad-supported linear streaming experiences.
