Hands-On AWS: EC2, Security Groups, and Cloud Compute Basics

Ready to get hands-on with AWS and actually launch something?

This session is all about doing, not just listening. We’ll focus on core cloud compute skills that show up in real-world projects and job roles, specifically Amazon EC2 and Security Groups. You’ll work directly in the AWS Console and leave with something real you built yourself.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Launch and configure an EC2 instance from scratch
  • Understand instance types, key pairs, and basic networking concepts
  • Set up and manage Security Groups to control inbound and outbound traffic
  • Connect to your instance (SSH or browser-based) and interact with it
  • Understand how compute, networking, and security come together in AWS

What makes this session different:

We focus on practical skills you can demonstrate, not just concepts you memorize.

Is this for you?

  • New to AWS? You’ll walk away with hands-on experience you can confidently talk about in interviews
  • Have some experience? We’ll dive deeper into best practices, common pitfalls, and real-world use cases

Who should attend:

Students, career changers, developers, IT professionals, or anyone serious about building real cloud skills

What to bring:

  • Laptop
  • AWS account (recommended, but we’ll help if you don’t have one)
  • Curiosity and questions

Whether your goal is to land your first cloud role, level up your skills, or just finally understand how cloud compute actually works, this session is for you.
