MUSIC [Playlist chosen by DJ Julien Simon]
Machine learning is a branch of Artificial Intelligence which gets computers to act without being explicitly programmed. Machine Learning theory been with us for years, but over the last decade we've seen an explosion in its application in the form of futuristic self-driving cars, advanced medical diagnostics, optimized energy management, practical speech recognition, effective web search, personal digital assistants, and a crystal clear understanding of the human genome.
AWS
AWS is a global leader in the provision of Machine Learning tools for developers and this evening the AWS User Group Dublin is delighted to welcome Julien Simon, Principal AI and Machine Learning Evangelist with AWS to our Community HQ. In Julien's session, we'll learn all about Amazon SageMaker AutoPilot, a recent capability that automatically creates the best machine learning model for your dataset.
We'll also learn how data pre-processing, feature engineering, algorithm selection, and model tuning are taken care for you. In addition, developers can inspect the code that was used at every step. Julien also promises a live demo!
We're also delighted to welcome AWS Engineers Ronan Guilfoyle and Ronan Prenty who will bring us through the most recent announcements from Re:invent 2019.
COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
Lin Zhang - 'Data Engineering with AWS'
Lin is a data scientist at LetsGetChecked, working on analytics and healthcare data science products. Lin holds a PhD and MSc in applied Engineering and an AWS SAA certification.
Lin will talk about her own experience on how data engineering and cloud practices with AWS shaped her career in data science, and the lessons learned from transitioning from Geomechanical Engineering to Healthcare Analytics.
COGITO
Cogito applies extremely low-latency signal processing and machine learning algorithms to detect certain speaking behaviours and provide actionable guidance to call centre agents in real-time. This feedback leads to positive behaviour change which affects the key performance indicators (like average handle time and customer satisfaction metrics) of large enterprise customers across a range of verticals. Cogito leverages extremely large volumes of authentic call centre conversations to build datasets to train their deep learning which is deployed to production.
In this talk, John Kane (Head of Machine Learning) will provide an overview of the technical challenges regularly tackled at Cogito, which his team is deploying via AWS. Brian Tarbox (Principal Software Engineer at Cogito, and organiser of the Boston AWS Meetup) will then continue to provide an overview of Lambdas including simple lambdas, Step Functions, Layers, deployment, monitoring and new features.
He will then proceed to describe a system used at Cogito to enable creation of large datasets for machine learning, based on Lambdas, which meet data security and compliance requirements.
CATION CONSULTING / PARLY.AI
Alan Kiernan is well known to the AWS UG Community as an Innovator in Machine Learning driven product development. One of Alan's many achievements is bringing NLU (Natural Language Understanding) and Conversational AI into Ryanair, Europe's Largest Airline.
Find out more about Alan's most recent achievements here:
