• Developers who already know AWS basics and want a practical map of which service to reach for, and when
• Engineers preparing for AWS Certified Developer - Associate (DVA-C02) before it retires
• Anyone building on AWS who wants the current picture - a lot of what's out there in courses and tutorials is already out of date

Description:
AWS's service catalog keeps growing, and so does the number of ways to build the same application. Meanwhile, some of what a two-year-old course taught you about AWS is no longer true - services get renamed, deprecated, and occasionally, like AWS CodeCommit, un-deprecated.
This session is a practical map, not a certification cram. We'll walk through the AWS services a developer actually reaches for, organized by the problem each one solves, then apply that map to eight real applications - starting from a simple WordPress site and ending at event-driven, production-grade architectures.
There's also a timing reason to join now: AWS retires the current AWS Certified Developer - Associate exam (DVA-C02) on November 30, 2026. Registration for the next version, DVA-C03, opens October 27, and the exam goes live December 1 - adding AI-assisted development, managed AI services, and securing AI agent interactions to what's tested. Whether or not certification is your goal, this session gives you the current map before that shift lands.
We'll cover:

• Why "which AWS service do I need" depends entirely on what you're building
• A categorized map of AWS services for developers - with each one's current status, since GA, maintenance, and discontinued behave very differently
• Eight architectures, from a single Lightsail instance to a full event-driven, CI/CD-backed application
• What's changed since you last checked - Cloud9, CodeStar, CodeCatalyst, App Runner, and CodeCommit's comeback
• Where this connects to AI-assisted development, with a callback to June's Kiro/SDD session
