Talk 1
Enhancing S3 Security with GuardDuty Malware Protection: A Real-Life Production Use Case with Ayhan Setirekli
In this talk, I'll introduce GuardDuty Malware Protection for S3, a powerful solution designed to boost the security of your S3 buckets. We'll dive into the key features of this new innovative service, which offers a simple, scalable, and event-driven malware detection solution in the cloud.
The focus will be on a real-life scenario where a customer required an automated solution to scan incoming files to S3 (via SFTP) and manage file movements based on GuardDuty malware scan results. We'll explore the architecture, solution file flow, and the various AWS services involved, such as DynamoDB, EventBridge, SQS, and Lambda. I'll also share some tips and tricks to avoid common pitfalls when setting up the service and discuss the problems it solves.
This session is ideal for those looking to improve their cloud security posture and gain insights into best practices for implementing malware protection in AWS.

Talk 2
Automating AWS Integration with Amazon Cloud Control API at System Initiative with Paul Stack

Amazon’s Cloud Control API promises a unified way to manage AWS resources, but gaps in coverage and metadata can make full automation challenging. In System Initiative, we leveraged Cloud Control API to dynamically generate all the necessary assets for seamless AWS integration—while also finding ways to work around its limitations.
This talk explores how we automated asset generation, the challenges we encountered with incomplete API support, and how we supplemented missing data using AWS CloudFormation resource specifications. Attendees will gain practical strategies for automating cloud integrations while ensuring reliability, extensibility, and a first-class user experience.
Takeaways:

  • How to use Amazon’s Cloud Control API to automate AWS integrations.
  • Understanding its limitations and where it falls short.
  • Strategies for handling missing data and incomplete API coverage.
  • Lessons learned from integrating AWS services into System Initiative.
