What we’re about
Welcome to the AWS User Group UK, a meetup group for the AWS user community. Proposed topics will cover the technical aspects of AWS feature use and implementation. We will tend to focus real-world use cases - what has worked and what hasn't.
All abilities are welcome, but be prepared to get in-depth! If you are looking for some background information, we recommend starting with The Open Guide to Amazon Web Services.
Remember to follow us on Bluesky and LinkedIn for our latest news. We are migrating off Twitter but will continue to post for now. If you want to chat with other members, join our Community Discord Server.
If you (or someone you know) have case studies/insights/ideas that you would like to share with our amazing community, please submit your talk via our Call for Papers form.
We are advocates for greater diversity & inclusion in UK Tech and are especially keen to receive talk submissions from people from underrepresented groups. If you are interested in speaking at a future meetup but would like to discuss what to expect or need assistance please contact our Diversity & Inclusion Lead Natalie Gray or DM via LinkedIn. Else you can check out our free resources to help you on your public speaking journey. Finally, you can read the findings of our 2020 Diversity and Inclusion survey here.
Please take time to read our Code Of Conduct - it applies to every member of our community, our services and every event we hold.

We're delighted to welcome Sheen Brisals, Engineering Leader, AWS Hero and Author and Andrew Langhorn, Principal Solutions Architect, AWS.
Sheen will show you have to build truly decoupled, resilient systems on AWS. This talk shows how Amazon EventBridge powers event-driven, serverless architectures - what it is, when to use it, and how real teams apply it in production.
Andrew will lift the lid on AWS Nitro - the custom-built hypervisor behind modern EC2. In this fast-paced tour, learn what Nitro is, why AWS built it, and how it boosts performance, security, and flexibility for your workloads (with a cameo from the legendary dom0).
PLEASE NOTE WE ARE STARTING THE TALKS AT 6:15 NOT 6:30!
A big thank you to our sponsors - The Scale Factory.
Programme:
18:00: Arrival, registration
18:15: TALKS START
20:00: Networking with food and a drink provided by the generosity of our sponsors.Talk 1:
Advanced Event-Driven Patterns With Amazon EventBridge with Sheen BrisalsAsynchronous communication and event-driven architecture are core to building distributed applications. Amazon EventBridge, a fully-managed serverless event bus, enables coordinating distributed and loosely coupled microservices to accomplish business functionality.
In this session, understand the characteristics of EventBridge and how it plays a pivotal role in serverless architectures. Learn the primary elements of event-driven architecture and some of the best practices. With real-world use cases, explore how the features of EventBridge support implementing advanced architectural patterns in serverless.
Talk 2:
A Hitchhiker's Guide to Nitro with Andrew LanghornA large range of EC2 instance families and AWS services make use of AWS’ custom-built hypervisor, AWS Nitro. Learn what it is, how we ended up there and what advantages it has for your workloads in this whistle stop tour, featuring special guests, such as dom0
