We walk through life and our emotions accompany us through every situation. They seem to be a given phenomenon with no apparent source except our general nature. But different people feel differently about the same thing. The same person feels differently about the same thing in different situations or in different phases of their live?
Where do emotions come from?
Objectivism explains our emotional apparatus as a recorder that automatizes our evaluations. Ayn Rand coined the term "sense of life" for the accumulated state of our emotional repertoire that this apparatus has produced.
This theory explains why emotions can change, why they can differ from person to person, how a state of happiness and absence of inner conflicts can be achieved. It gives us the tool to understanding our own psyche and other people's.
Join the discussion and let's explore together the seemingly mysterious nature of the emotional apparatus. For that, Ayn Rand's essay "Philosophy and Sense of Life" will serve as the springboard and literary motivation.
