What we're about

The Phoenix-metro area's longest-running PHP user group. We welcome anyone from the grand master to just learning.

We meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month, currently at Galvanize in Phoenix near the stadium.

Our group's main discussions and interactions occur on our Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/7088306282/).

You can also join the azdevs slack team via https://azdevs.org and join the #php channel.

azPHP - Building Slack Apps in PHP

Online event

This month, Jeremy Lindblom will speak about building Slack apps using PHP.

Building a simple Slack† application is not too difficult, but there are many more details to consider once you go beyond a "Hello, world!". Also, Slack's interaction patterns and provided tools are not particularly favorable to PHP developers. Jeremy will show you the basics of Slack app development and showcase some open source tools for PHP developers that might help you on your way.

About the Presenter: Jeremy is a principal software engineer at McGraw Hill, an education-technology company. Outside of work, Jeremy likes to work on OSS PHP libraries, play video games, sing, and play with his 4 kids.

***Due to COVID-19, all meetups are hosted online via Zoom until further notice. Zoom links are not posted until near the start time of the event.***

†Slack is a well-known chat/messaging application that provides a whole suite of integrated tools for collaboration, as well as ways for developers to create additional integrated tools.

azPHP - PHP on Kubernetes & GitHub Actions

Online event

This month, Luther will show us how to run a PHP app using Kubernetes (K8s). As a bonus, he will also show us how deployments can be performed via GitHub Actions.

Abstract:
Take a deep dive into containerizing a php/nginx application end to end from the basics to deploying to Kubernetes. We will move through looking at the php docker images, docker-compose for local development and continuous deployment examples using github actions to push your images to Kubernetes dynamically using helm3.

About the Presenter:
Luther is a Staff Software Engineer at SUSE working on the backend of Rancher2 and doing enterprise Kubernetes engineering support. Even though his time today mostly gets spent abusing docker and writing in go, he began his career as a php developer 15yrs ago and still maintains php applications.
