Zine Making Workshop : changing narrative with Zonoteka
Details
For December the Kreuzberg gallery Zonoteka temporarily transforms into a typical Christmas shop, a souvenir shop, where visitors can buy presents for their loved ones. However, through the exhibition and workshops another layer of the concept is revealed - by exploring traditions, material and symbolic legacies of European colonization, our zine workshop gives space to discuss and challenge collectively existing artworks that convey a certain colonial gaze, and more precisely the presence of exoticism in these.
We will introduce you artworks - mainly poems - that convey an exotic gaze as well as poems that present a counter exotic gaze.
The aim of the workshop is to contest the stereotypes or to find the counter narrative through a writing exercise, collages and visual rework. We will guide you throughout the different activities, but the structure remains quite flexible, the workshop is a shared collective reflection. It aims to encourage critical reflection, resulting in a zine, a “gift” that participants can bring home.
If you have any artwork or material that you would like to work with, feel free to bring it.
