Dapr and Isolation on AKS

Details
We are very happy to invite you all to a new meetup. This time in-person and just before KubeCon Amsterdam!
We’ll have 2 talks for you this evening from utilising Dapr to deploy your distributed applications to AKS while we also look into creating isolated environments for development teams with vcluster!
Agenda:
18:00 – doors open and food
19:00 – talk 1
19:45 – break
20:00 – talk 2
20:45 – social
21:30 - end
Talk 1 - Dapr on AKS: Start building distributed applications with ease - Marc Duiker
Are you interested in building distributed applications or microservice architectures, but don't know where to start? Join this session and learn how Dapr can make your life easier!
Dapr, the Distributed Application Runtime, provides a set of common APIs that makes building microservices a breeze. This session covers the various building blocks of Dapr: service invocation, pub/sub messaging, state stores, secret stores, bindings, actors, and workflow. There will be demos in different programming languages and a deployment will be done to Azure Kubernetes Service.
After this session, you'll have a good understanding how Dapr can help you build distributed and resilient applications and deploy them to the managed Kubernetes environments.
About Marc:
Marc is a Sr Developer Advocate at Diagrid with a strong focus on event-driven architectures in the Azure cloud. He loves helping developers to achieve more every day.
You might have seen Marc at a developer meetup or conference since he's a regular speaker in the area of Azure cloud & serverless technologies. He started Azure Functions University, a free and open source learning curriculum on GitHub, where everyone can learn about Azure Functions at their own pace. From 2019 to 2023 Marc received the Microsoft Azure MVP award for his community contributions.
In his spare time, Marc likes to give attention to the creative part of his brain. He likes to create pixel art (check out VSCode Pets), code visuals & music, and an occasional retro game.
Talk 2 – Freedom in isolation with vClusters and AKS – Daniel Paulus
On a rainy Monday morning the new Team Lead requested test environments for their latest proof of concepts.
While searching for a solution to provide teams with short lived environments, we have looked at several solutions, from namespaces on a shared cluster, all the way to fully fledged Terraform managed environments.
While we can provision Kubernetes clusters for all our teams, our current setup does not make that easy. As the Platform Team we like to keep our focus on operating the primary systems and not drown in requests for new environments.
In this talk I'll show how we finally solved these requests from our teams by utilising the CNCF vClusters project to give freedom to dev teams while not breaking the bank with hundreds of clusters.
About Daniel:
Daniel is a serial conference and meetups organiser. He's a Principal Consultant at Beyond Blue, a Microsoft Azure focused consultancy company, and a Microsoft Azure MVP. He helps companies succeed with Cloud Native technologies and DevOps practices. When not working with tech you can find him out in the woods or fishing at a lake.
