Platform Engineering - learnings from Banking Circle and Maersk

Details

This meetup we have two presentations abount effective Platform Engineering.

Azure Landing Zones as a Service
In Azure, Landing Zones are used to configure and organize resources in a secure and reliable way. Each application (team) has its own Landing Zone, which follows best practices and design principles to ensure its security and reliability.

We can apply Platform Engineering principles to the creation and management of those Landing Zones: Make it easy for anyone to get their own Landing Zone, within the standards defined in our organization, around security, cost, or reliability, among others.

Providing this "Golden Path" to Landing Zones, we get a consistent, secure and scalable setup across all our development teams, while making their life easy and keeping them focused in what matters: The software they are building.

At Banking Circle, we follow this approach. Each developer or team just must provide a simple YAML containing their desired configuration, and in return they get all the infrastructure they need to develop and run their software.

Speaker: Juan Herreros Elorza
Juan works for Banking Circle, as a Principal Engineer in the Platform Engineering team.
When not working, Juan most likely rehearsing or performing improv comedy.

The Maersk Developer Platform
The Maersk Developer Platform (MDP) is an integrated ecosystem of tools, services, and frameworks that simplifies and accelerates software development at Maersk. By abstracting complex infrastructure and with self-service capabilities, MDP alleviates developers’ cognitive load, enabling them to focus on developing innovative solutions.

Speaker: Manohar Koukuntla
Manohar is a Senior Software Engineer with 7 years of experience in Application development and Platform Engineering. As a Platform Engineer he worked on Maersk Observability platform and moved to Developer experience area as Infrastructure Engineer for MDP.
