Permaculture Class – Climate: Analysing Natural Sustainability 🌿🌎

Our 10 week Permaculture Certificate Course, is running now from May 5th - July 7th. For those of you who wish to have an official PDC certificate, which we are authorised to give by the Permaculture Research Institute in Australia, you can send us your whatapp contact, and we can send you access to our online platform where you will find all the info you need 🎓

Studying Permaculture is studying sustainability. If we want to be sustainable, to design sustainable businesses, working teams, creative work, ecosystems and every other part of our lives, we first need to know what sustainability is. Bill Mollison set out to do this for us, in his 600page 'manual', by first deconstructing natural sustainable systems to learn how they are designed, and secondly then learning how we can construct our own sustainable systems based on these principles.

This week

We will be focusing on the themes of 1️⃣ Patterns 2️⃣ Resources 3️⃣ Entropy vs Diversity, and our major subject of ➡️ Climate.

Climate is more than weather - it's the foundation that shapes how ecosystems function and evolve. This week, we’ll dive into how climate influences natural sustainability and how we, as permaculture designers, can respond by creating systems that are resilient, regenerative, and energy-smart. By observing how nature adapts through patterns, balances resources, and maintains diversity, we can design landscapes that not only survive but thrive within their climatic context.

Key Topics

🔁 Patterns in Nature – Discover how wind, water, and energy follow repeating forms—and how recognising these helps us design resilient systems that align with climate forces.
♻️ Resources & Energy Flow – Explore how climate affects the availability and management of key resources like water, sunlight, and soil fertility. Learn strategies to optimise resource use and reduce inputs.
🌱 Entropy vs. Diversity – Understand how healthy ecosystems resist degradation through diversity, and how climate-resilient design promotes stability, abundance, and long-term sustainability.

“Design is a connection between things… It’s not the things themselves, but how they work together.” – Bill Mollison
