This is a workshop for those who work in music, maybe as a performer, producer or composer, and who want to improve their skills and knowledge in mixing.

We will be taking a comprehensive and complete look at mixing the iconic track "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson, using the official multitrack recording from his original session.

I will be using Ableton for demonstration purposes, but the topics will be applicable to whichever DAW you use. The level will be intermediate but it is open to everyone, so even if you are a beginner but want to observe how we professionally mix music, you are welcome to join!

Topics & Questions:

Improving our critical listening by comparing the official version with our mix - how can we achieve what they achieved?

How can we use Automation, Panning, EQ, Compression, Reverb to best enhance this mix?

Can we explore a different direction for certain elements, compared to the original?

What might be happening in the Mastering stage?

As I work through I will try to describe my workflow, and what I am doing with the various tools to the best of my ability.

If the workshop interests you - you can partake in my ongoing online group workshop on mixing and/or study with me 1 on 1 in the form of private lessons.
