Ocracoke Island is part of North Carolina's Outer Banks. There are no roads from the mainland or other islands, so it is accessible only by sea or air, preferably the latter. It is a bit over 2 hours @ 120 kts, and we can fly down the Outer Banks for some nice views of the shore.

There is a lot to do on the island, and last year they said October is the best time to come. At minimum, we should be able to walk to one of the restaurants and take a nice walk along the beach. If we can get some ground transportation, we have more options. Uday has volunteered to check on some activities once we get on the ground, so we'll update this when he finds out.

There would be an option to stay overnight also, but all the people in a plane must agree to do this.

Passengers only (required reading) : I'm charging $103.30 for the event fee through PayPal. $3.30 is the fee for PayPal, and $100 will go toward your flight costs if you wind up attending. The $100 is not payment for your flight , nor is it a guarantee of any kind that you will be able to fly or be provided any services whatsoever. It is only, and I stress only , an event fee to hold your place on this event. If you cancel in time and someone on the wait list can take your place, then you can get a refund, otherwise don't expect one unless your flight is canceled. Please note that you will owe the balance of your flight cost to your pilot on the day of the flight , so bring a check or cash to cover the balance (check with your pilot to make sure they will accept a check). Note also that the pilots can only give you estimates for the flight cost; the FAA requires that we do not exceed actual costs, and those are not known until after the flight. Additional costs, such as lunch or lodging are not included in the estimates. Note also that pilots renting planes have monetary obligations and if you cancel late, for any reason , you may not get all or any of your event fee refunded.

Note that you must answer all of the required questions or you will be removed from the attendees. This is true even if you get on the waiting list.

REFUNDS: You can get a refund if your flight is canceled, you cancel and someone takes your place, or you are switched to a different pilot/plane and want to cancel. Note that each person pays their own way insofar as food, lodging, rental car, etc.

MEETING US: Those who want can meet outside the Starbuck's at the South Lakes Village Center on South Lakes Drive in Reston, and we can carpool to Leesburg or other airports. If you want to carpool from a different location, indicate that in your RSVP or send one of the organizers a note and we can add it to this description. Of course people can always meet at the respective airports; specific instructions for meeting at the airports will be sent via email to the attendees prior to the flight.

FLIGHT TIMES: The flight is approximately 2.5 hours one-way (for the slower planes), plus some time for ground operations, so expect around 5-6 hours total flight costs.

The following is info on the pilots and planes. Pilots: email Alan if you will be able to provide an additional plane; use the info below as a guide. Depending on your schedule, you might be returning after dark.
