Graph Databases and Fundraising

So - relational databases are critical for any group’s fundraising - tracking donors and their donation history – right?

And graph databases are critical for understanding a person’s personal network - Friends, family, co-workers etc. – and social graphs are all the rage these days (Facebook, LinkedIn et. al.) – right?

Is there any way to put the two of them together? Can graph databases be used to expand our fundraising reach? Can we build graph databases of our donors without having to rely on Facebook? Are there graph databases all around us that we could be using but aren’t?

Good question – maybe we should figure it out.

This will not be the standard MeetUp where a single personal stands and delivers a presentation to the seated and learning masses. Instead let’s gather and combine our ignorance and information and see if we can make some progress on the topic.

I’ll start with a basic explanation of graph databases gentle enough for even the most beginning of beginners. Then we can take those basic ideas and work through the question.
