Social Media Surgery

Details

PDXTech4Good will be one of many groups across the NetSquared global network holding a social media-themed event during Social Media September. Our event will feature a crowdsourcing change format. Here’s how it works: Two or three local nonprofits (or, patients) will share how they’re using online marketing and social media/networking to achieve their goals and objectives. Then the surgeons (that’s you!) participate in a facilitated discussion about how each organization might use the social web to even greater effect.

We’re pleased to announce that the local organizations eager to receive the wisdom of the crowd will be:

Morrison Child & Family Services (http://www.morrisonkids.org/) (Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Morrisoncfs), Twitter (https://twitter.com/morrisoncfs)) which delivers specialized services to children, from birth through age 18, and families coping with adversity and trauma. Presenters will be Blythe Pavlik, Communications Coordinator, and Rachel Stone, Development & Volunteer Coordinator. PlayWrite (http://www.playwriteinc.org/) (Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pages/PlayWrite-Inc/97551712628), Twitter (https://twitter.com/playwriteinc)) uses the power of performance in art to transform the lives of youth at the edge. Social Media Coordinator Emily Andrysick will present. Whether you’re a social media expert or an interested citizen, your perspectives and opinions are welcome and valuable. So, come and join the crowd with your questions, insights and reactions, and help these local organizations more effectively use social tools to achieve their important objectives. This is a great learning and sharing opportunity--not only for the presenting organizations, but for all participants!

Stop by for discussion, networking with the nonprofit tech crowd, and refreshments!

What you'll get out of PDXTech4Good events

Nonprofit staffers will find a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for those not experienced with technology, and many chances to ask questions of tech-experienced nonprofits and experts. Techies will find opportunities to hear the real-world stories of nonprofit clients, and put their own expertise to social good — as well as the potential for lasting relationships (be they paid or volunteer) with leading organizations in our community. Activists and community organizers will see and be given the chance to present on successful uses of technology for social change. We'll explore how technology can help support activism and where activism can push it forward.
