Real Estate Investors - Speed Networking

Details

Surely you've heard of Speed Dating.

How about applying the same technique to:

  • Find partners for deals
  • Generate leads
  • Find people who have resources you need
  • Talk to people who know the people that you want to meet
  • Get the word out about what or whom you are looking for
  • Find properties / buyers / money / contractors

What do you want or need?

Chances are someone else knows how to help you find or get it. Even if you know how and where to find or get it, someone else may have an even better solution.

The only question is: How are they going to know that they can help you?

Introducing: SPEED NETWORKING!

We've done this before. Speed Networking puts you in touch with many other people in the room on a one-to-one basis for a very short interval. This can result in your getting what you want while helping others get what they need. It can turn into joint venture deals and new friends.

These events have proven to be a fun, high-energy, and effective way to make a lot of connections in a very different environment from standard business networking meetings.

How to get the most out of this event:

Before the meeting

  • Decide what questions you might ask someone else to find out what they need.

  • Determine what you want to tell others: what you need, what you are looking for, what you want.

  • If possible, be specific in what you are asking for (it is easier to help someone if you know they are looking for a reliable air conditioning repairperson than if they tell you they are trying to "build their team").

  • Practice what you will say. While you will probably be asked questions that you haven't prepared for, you will communicate what you most need more clearly if you practice asking for it.

  • Keep your most important communication to no more than about 10-15 seconds at most. You will have approximately 30 seconds and you need to leave time for them to ask you questions about what you are looking for or to provide you an answer or contact info to follow up with them.

  • Bring business cards so people can follow up with you.

  • Bring paper and pen so you can take notes and/or contact info when someone can help you or when you can help someone else.

While you are at the meeting

  • Relax. Have fun and enjoy the time.

  • Focus on understanding what the other person needs while they are talking. Ask questions if you need to better understand what they are looking for.

  • Be willing to share any helpful information, contacts, or resources to help others.

  • Keep your communication short and to the point.

  • Tell them how they can help you. (E.g., by providing the name of someone who [performs a service or has something you need], by sharing any ideas they have as to where you might find what you need, etc.)

  • Relax. Have fun and enjoy the time. Yes, I know I said this already, so take it to heart :)

You might be surprised what you can learn from others and tell about yourself in such a short time. This is quality packed. Bring a pen and paper and come join in on networking with a twist.

Our General Meeting is the first Tuesday of each month and we invite newcomers to investing to see what we are about. Come join us and see how we can help you in your investment career. We are a not-for-profit educational group for the Real Estate Investment Community.

Signing up for the SREIA Meetup does not make you a member of SREIA. Additional information about SREIA, how to become a member, and details of upcoming meetings can be found at:
