Description:
Susan Cain’s Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talkinghas been on bestseller lists since its January 2012 publication. Why is the book drawing so much attention? Is there value to BAAPT members and the broader type community in this book that reviews dozens of social science studies from leading universities but hardly mentions the work of C. G. Jung or Isabel Myers?
In the morning, panelists of contrasting types will review and critique Quiet, sharing professional and personal perspectives. They will elicit our views about introversion and extraversion in small group activities and engage in a Q & A session.
Afternoon discussion will focus on the “Extravert Ideal” as presented by Cain. Attendees will be invited to share their experience: Does American culture undervalue introverts and push them to be more outspoken? Does it equally shortchange extraverts and pressure them to damp down? The panel will lead us in considering whether introversion is only for meeting the inner world and extraversion for meeting the outer world. Discussion is likely to address challenges for introverts and extraverts in such settings as the classroom, the workplace and the family.
Our panel is comprised of type teachers, coaches, writers, and consultants with expertise in Interaction Styles, Temperament, and Jungian approaches to type. Most have facilitated MBTI® qualifying programs.
