Hike Chief Mountain
Details
Another of my favorite high altitude hikes known for its panoramic views! Let's hike the Chief Mountain Trail just one hour outside of Denver. A short moderate 3 mile trail with almost 1,000 feet of elevation gain! This high altitude trail begins at 10,800 feet and travels through alpine forest, then breaks out into high-country tundra, eventually gaining panoramic views of surrounding mountains. Be prepared for lingering snow & ice on the rocks!
**Dog Free Hikes...**Please leave your baby dogs at home for Baby Boomer hikes.
Directions to the Trailhead: From Denver, take Interstate 70 west to exit 252. This exit will funnel you onto CO-74/Evergreen Parkway headed West/Southwest for about 2 miles, where you’ll take a right onto Squaw Pass Road. Squaw Pass road is paved and climbs the mountain in a series of switchback for 10.4 miles. The trailhead is easy to miss. It’s a pull-out on the right-hand/North side of the road.
**What to bring...**Colorado weather changes quickly! Please come prepared with appropriate hiking clothing, waterproof boots, hiking poles, microspikes, backpack, snacks, and water. Make sure you have rain gear in your pack in case you need it! Make it the best experience possible by being prepared!
See you there
