About us
Meet new people, get strong, and learn to lift with a barbell club in Toronto!
Back Alley Barbell was built around a simple idea: strength training shouldn't be intimidating. We specialize in powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting, and strongman — three disciplines with a shared foundation of technique, patience, and community. Training together, spotting each other's lifts, and celebrating each other's PRs creates a bond that's hard to find in a regular gym. It's the kind of place where your first heavy lift gets cheered on by strangers who quickly stop being strangers.
Our Foundations workshops are the easiest way in, whether you've never touched a barbell or you're looking to clean up your technique:
- Powerlifting — Sundays, roughly monthly, 2–2.5 hrs
- Olympic Weightlifting — Sundays, roughly monthly, 2 hrs
- Strongman — Saturdays, roughly every 2 weeks at 2 PM, 2 hrs
Enjoyed your workshop? Continue with open gym membership or one of our weekly classes.
We welcome people with experience and without, and of all backgrounds. No lifting history required — just curiosity and a willingness to get under the bar.

Discover the strength, technique, and confidence of powerlifting with our Foundations workshop, designed for complete beginners and curious lifters alike. You'll learn the proper execution of the Squat, Bench Press, and Deadlift, work through powerlifting-specific mobility drills, and find out how you can get involved with our lifting community. Why You Should Try Powerlifting:
Powerlifting is built on three lifts — the Squat, Bench Press, and Deadlift — and rewards patience and precision as much as raw strength. In a small group of 1–5 lifters, you'll get hands-on coaching most classes can't offer, learn what it actually feels like to lift heavy safely, and test your strength at the end of the session. It's a great way to build real, functional strength in a supportive setting. Our vision for you!
We love this sport and its ability to build strength, confidence, and community. We hope you'll keep lifting with us!
After attending the workshop, you'll also get one month of personalized programming included. From there, continue your lifting with open gym membership or Coach Moshiri's weekly powerlifting classes at Back Alley Barbell.Who Can Join?
We welcome everyone, regardless of experience or background. No lifting experience is required.1 attendee
