THE AMALFI COAST - ITALY

Backabush is returning to Italy to explore the fantastically beautiful mountains and coastline around the gorgeous villages of Amalfi and Positano.

Nights - 4. Group size - 16. Cost - £549 - twin share rooms. £669 for

The Amalfi coast is one of Italy's most famous and popular destinations. It's colourful villages built on impossibly steep hillsides can be recognised in an instant.

Our plan is to enjoy 3 hiking days exploring the best hikes the region has to offer, along trails taking us through the deep lush valleys of the Ferriere nature reserve as well as the high ridgelines of the Lattari Mountains. The Path of the Gods 'il Sentiero degli Dei' is the Amalfi Coast's signature trail and is renowned for it's heart stopping views as it winds it way through the cliffside far above ocean.

We have four nights in a lovely 3 star guesthouse (exclusively for our group) in the pretty village of Bomerano. This means we will be right at the start of the Path of the Gods trail and can begin some hikes from the door of our accommodation. We have options for a very limited number of single rooms and shared twin rooms.

Autumn is a great time of year to hike the Amalfi Coast. The summer season is too hot, busy and pricey but the cooler temperatures of autumn mean that we can enjoy quieter mountain trails and we can drink our post hike limoncello spritz in relative peace.

SUGGESTED ITINERARY:

Day 1 - Arrive in Naples. Private transfer from Naples airport to our accommodation under the mountains of the Amalfi Coast.

Day 2 - From our guesthouse we can enjoy a circular hike, taking us to the summit of Monte Tre Calli (1122m), offering sweeping views of the Sorrentine Peninsula and nearby mountain villages. On a clear day it's possible to see all the way to Mt Vesunius and the island of Capri. Approx 11km with 700m ascent and descent.

Day 3 - On the this day we transfer to the beautiful coastal town of Amalfi from where we hike through the gorgeous Valle delle Ferriere, passing waterfalls and fragrant lemon groves. Private transfer back to Bomerano. Approx 16km with 1100m ascent and descent.

Day 4 - Straight from our accommodation we can hike the world famous "Path of the Gods" descending to the delightful village of Positano. It's then possible to return to Bomerano by local ferry + bus (not included). Approx 12 km with 370m ascent and 780 descent.

Day 5 - We need to check out from our guesthouse by 10AM and will have our private transfer (included) back to Naples airport to fly home.

WHAT IS INCLUDED:

• 4 nights accommodation in a lovely 3 star guesthouse (booked exclusively for our group) in the pretty village of Bomerano.
• 4 breakfasts and 1 three-course dinner.
• Private transfers from Naples airport to our guesthouse in Bomerano and from our guesthouse to Naples airport timed to meet our recommended fight.
• Private transfers to and from Amalfi town.
• Three beautiful guided hikes.

WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED:

• Travel to Naples (see recommended flights).
• Any meals not specified.
• Local ferry and bus ticket back from Positano. Approx 18 euros.
• Travel insurance.

DIFFICULTY:

Distances on this trip are relatively low. We do not plan on hiking more than about 10 miles on any day. However, due to the steep nature of the coastline we do need to be prepared for lots of descent as we walk from our accommodation in the mountains to the coast including the 1700 steps down into Positano. Hiking poles are highly recommended.

RECOMMENDED FLIGHTS:

TBC - It is still too early to book flights. Some of us are highly likely to fly to Naples 2 or 3 nights before the trip starts as the city is well worth visiting. It is also easy to arrange day trips to Pompeii and Mt Vesuvius from Naples.
