Lower Emigrant Wilderness Loop - Crabtree to Buck Lakes.

Let’s get out and hike the Lower Emigrant Wilderness Loop to Buck Lakes.

This is a ~26-mile loop with 3,900’ elevation gain in Emigrant Wildness. The loop will take us past multiple lakes. I plan to stop at most of them so you'll have plenty of opportunities to dip/swim.

Itinerary:
Day #1: Crabtree Trailhead to Deer Lake via Crabtree Trail. Distance: 11 miles. Elevation: ~ 2,700' ft, some descent
Day #2: Deer Lake to Buck Lake to Grouse Lake. Distance: 12 miles. Elevation: ~700’ / 2,150’ descent
Day #3: Grouse Lake to Crabtree Trailhead. Distance: 4 miles Elevation: ~500’

Logistics:
Meet at the Crabtree Trailhead at 9:30 am on Friday, July 18th. Dispersed camping is allowed at the trailhead for anyone looking to drive up on Thursday. Restrooms are also available at the trailhead. It is a 3.5 - 4+ hour drive from the SF Bay Area. Carpooling is encouraged. There is plenty of parking at the Trailhead as well as overflow. I will obtain the wilderness permit for the group ahead of time.

Additional Information:

1. Water is available throughout the trail from the lakes.
2. Bear canisters are not required in the Emigrant Wilderness but are encouraged.
3. There will be no water crossings of note.
4. You must be an experienced backpacker to join and be able to maintain an average pace of at ~2.5 miles/hour on a flat trail carrying a full backpack. THIS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE. Safety is my #1 priority and stragglers break up the group or slow down everyone else.

When emailing me, please include your phone number and times that you're availavle to chat. RSVP'ing does not guarantee participation, a verbal confirmation during the phone conversation and participation in the pre-trip call does.
6. COST: There is no cost for this trip.
7. The group's pre-trip conference call will take place on Monday, 7/14 @ 7PM and is mandatory. If you do not make the call, you have forfeited your place on this trip.
