Overnight on the LHHT (Experienced) - 37 Miles

Details
I plan to host additional backpacking trips during my favorite season in the fall but wanted to squeeze in something before then. This trip will be an out and back from Ohiopyle to the Route 653 Shelters. The evenings should still be cool enough to hangout around a roaring campfire and I’m hoping the April showers will have mostly concluded by then. If you’re unfamiliar with the LHHT, the first eight miles offer the most elevation compared to the rest of the trail.
A detailed map of the entire trail can be found here.
We’ll be crossing several creeks and streams which should offer plenty of opportunity to filter and refill your water supply and each shelter area has a well pump. With that said however, the well water tends to come out rusty so I only use it for washing dishes.
This site requires an overnight reservation, which you can make using this link: https://pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/unifSearchInterface.do?interface=permtype&contractCode=PA&parkId=880219&permitTypeId=3045519
- Once you click the link, be sure to select “B-RT 653” as the ZONE and “Shelter” as the entrance type (unless you’re tenting)
- The start date will be Saturday, April 30
