Details

Join me as I re-visit my very first adventure that got me into backpacking! You can choose to backpack and stay the night like most folks did on my inaugural trip, or simply join for a relaxing day hike like I did those many years ago.

If you’re just joining for a day hike, you can do as I did and hike the extra mile and a half on the Forest Trail, which will take you back to Route 18… and ultimately the Park Office.

For those spending the night, we’ll take the same route back to our vehicles Sunday morning.

Please note that overnight reservations are required for both tent and shelter sites.

Reservations can be made here:

  1. Select ‘Backpack Camping Permit’
  2. Select ‘Sioux’ as the Zone
  3. Select the Entrance Type of your Preference
  4. Enter 6/11/2022 as the Date of Stay

Our Itinerary: See map for reference points

  1. Meet at Park Office / parking area
  • Begin hiking along the Mineral Springs Loop Trail, briefly crossing over Heritage Trail and hiking towards Mineral Springs (3/4 Mile)
  1. Hop back on the Heritage Trail and follow it until it intersects with the Buckskin Trail (3.25 Miles)
  2. Continue on Buckskin Trail (1 Mile)
  3. Briefly jump on Nichol Road before turning back into the woods on Forest Trail (1/2 Mile)
  4. Continue on Forest Trail to Sioux Campsite (2 Miles)
  5. Depart Sioux Campsite via Forest Trail towards Route 18/Park Office (1.5 Miles)
