Retro Stop Motion Movies!

Details
Join us -- IN PERSON -- for a pot luck and two 21st century movies that are throwbacks to the 20th century. They don't make 'em like they used to! Oh, wait -- it turns out they DID make 'em like they used to, with old school stop motion just like King Kong (1933) or The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958). OK, maybe not JUST like them.
Sinbad: the Fifth Voyage
2014 / 1 hr 29 min / color
"When the Sultan's daughter, Princess Parisa is taken by an evil sorcerer, Sinbad is tasked with travelling to a desert of magic and creatures to save her."-- IMDb
Shaheen Sean Solimon not only stars as the titular Sinbad -- he also co-wrote, executive produced and directed this low budget spectacle, which is a clear tribute to such Ray Harryhausen stop motion epics as The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958) and The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973). But does it measure up to them? Let's put it this way: you will be hard pressed to find more bitter reviews on IMDb than the reviews for this film, but I give 'em points for trying!
The Primevals
2023 / 1 hr 31 min / color
"When a group of explorers go in search of a yeti, they find themselves taken captive by an ancient race of alien creatures."-- IMDb
This stop motion fantasy adventure had a LONG gestation period:
1968 -- animator David Allen creates a promotional short film
1975 -- David Allen and Randall William Cook write first draft script
1978 -- Primevals cover story published in Cinefantastique magazine
1994 -- live action photography and some stop motion completed
1999 -- director/animator David Allen dies of cancer
2018 -- producer Charles Band raises $40,00 in online campaign
2019 -- Allen's assistant, Chris Endicott, resumes animation
2023 -- completed film screens at film festivals
Trivia: Actress Juliet Mills (Hayley Mills' sister) was shocked to learn the film had been completed after all these years! Baby boomers may remember her from her starring role in the ABC series, Nanny and the Professor (1970-1971). Her other films include Beyond the Door (1974) and Waxwork 2: Lost in Time (1992).
Plus selected trailers and/or short films.
