Madea Goes to Jail (TYLER PERRY VIRTUAL DISCUSSION GROUP)

Folks, we've already watched a few Tyler Perry movies together, but we haven't had the chance to dive deep into the MCU - the Madea Cinematic Universe.

For those of you don't know, Mabel "Madea" Simmons is a "tough, street-smart elderly woman" portrayed by Mr. Perry himself. This character has been a staple of Perry's plays and films for over 20 years, receiving responses from high praise for her comedic antics and life advice to strong controversy for playing into racial and gendered stereotypes.

Madea Goes to Jail, the fourth Madea movie that is also an adaptation of the 2005 play of the same name, centers on Madea's sentencing to prison, along with the story of a young sex worker and her relationship with her assistant district attorney.

I think this 2009 film, with its coverage of serious topics, along with a cast of well-known actors, can make for a solid entry for folks new to the MCU, so let's talk about it!
