Pizza, Hike then Hawaiian Dinner on Long Island

let's go take a hike at Massapequa Preserve for fitness, fresh air and camaraderie with new friends. Hike is easily reachable on Long Island Railroad (LIRR).

FIRSTLY we'll have LUNCH at Leonardo's Pizza right by train station. AHMAZZZING PIZZA!!!

Then with a tummy of happiness we'll embark on hike through Massapequa Preserve.

About Massapequa Preserve: Located in the heart of Massapequa, the preserve is one of the most beautiful parks in the area. Officially named The Peter J. Schmitt Massapequa Preserve, the preserve is made up of 432 acres containing a bike trail, hiking trail via the Greenbelt, as well as fishing and nature walks. By most accounts, it is considered one of the most beautiful areas in Nassau County and one of the most hidden. It’s right in the middle of Massapequa but being inside feels like you’re in the middle of the forest. The trail is well known for being one of the few places in Nassau County that you can actually feel like an escape from the surrounding suburban sprawl. Sunset over the lake itself is simply incredible and a wonderful inland view.

GETTING THERE: LIRR to Massapequa station. Trailhead is right by train station

TRAIN SCHEDULE:

• If you are leaving from PENN STATION in Manhattan: Take the LIRR train leaving at 10:23am, NO TRANSFER AT JAMAICA and arrive at MASSAPEQUA STATION at 11:12am
• If you are leaving from JAMAICA STATION in Queens: Take the LIRR train leaving at 10:45am, arriving at MASSAPEQUA Station at 11:12am.
• For boarding from any other LIRR station, check MTA schedule.

OUR AGENDA: We will all arrive in MASSAPEQUA STATION by 11:12am. The trailhead is a short walk from the train station.

HIKE INTENSITY: This will be an EASY BREEZY hike.

PACE: Hiking pace will be LEISURELY AND NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND. NO SPEED DEMONS PLEASE.

THE IMPORTANT STUFF:

• Dress in non-cotton layers.
• Wear appropriate shoes suitable for hiking.
• Bring sunscreen, bug spray, head cover
• Bring at least 3L of liquid to stay hydrate

Après-hike we'll have Hawaiian dinner at Island Poke in Massapequa Park before heading home stuffed and happy

NOTE AT THE END OF THE DAY, we'll pick up return train from MASSAPEQUA PARK STATION - NOT the same station as in the morning but both stations are in the same price zone.
