Soulful Conversations—the Arts as Worship and Khalil Fong’s Legacy
“The acquisition of sciences and the perfection of arts are considered acts of worship.” -‘Abdu’l-Bahá
Honouring and reflecting on artist Khalil Fong’s work and legacy, we will reflect upon and discuss Writings from the Bahá’í Faith on the subject of the arts, including music, visual arts, drama, etc.
The Bahá’í teachings say that music can act as a ladder for the soul, “a means whereby they may be lifted up unto the realm on high …” – Baha’u’llah, The Most Holy Book, p. 38.
This means that ideally, we will listen to and play music which elevates our souls. But that raises a question: what is spiritual, soul-elevating music?
Khalil Fong was a Bahá’í musician and artist who is an example of someone worshipping God through the art that he created. What can we learn from artists like Khalil, how can we incorporate artistic expression into our own lives to leave a positive impact in society?
You are most welcome to join this reflection and discussion space for meaningful conversations, upliftment and friendship.
