What we're about

Kaleidoscope Dance started as an idea to make changes in the current model of business in the dance industry.

There are two things specifically that drive our vision:

1) We want to create a place where dancers of all levels of talent and experience feel welcome to come dance with instructors of their choosing without any pressure to “join” or sign contracts.

2) We want to create a professional, reliable place where independent dance instructors can come to teach lessons on a high-quality dance floor for reasonable floor use fees.

Kaleidoscope has group classes, private lessons, and events.

For those that are looking for private instruction, we have experienced Kaleidoscope Instructors that provide quality instruction.

As a studio, Kaleidoscope has regular operating hours and a calendar for the upcoming month posted on the website. During operating hours, someone is at the studio to check clients in, take calls, answer questions, reserve floor use, and schedule lessons. Studio use outside operating hours is available by appointment.

Easily accessible right off the 101 at Guadalupe, on the border of Tempe and Mesa.

*Please note, having a clean, pebble free floor is very important to us. You can leave your street shoes at the door and switch into your dance shoes or carefully clean your street shoes on the shoe brushes outside the door. Thank you for your understanding.

Please contact us for any questions you have! We want you to feel welcome and comfortable. Thank you!

Gentle Tai Chi Qigong- Morning Class

Kaleidoscope Dance

$12.00

Zoom now available!
https://www.kaleidoscope-ballroom.com/class-registration

Gentle Tai Chi-Qigong consists of gentle QIgong (Chee gung) stretches and Tai Chi (Tie chee) movements that help improve circulation and release stress. Gentle Tai Chi was developed specifically for seniors and people with Parkinson's but is great for any age. Because the moves are stationary, it is an ideal form of exercise for anyone that has balance issues. Moves can be done sitting if needed.

This class starts with 30 minutes of warm-up activities from the 4000-year-old practice of Qigong (Chee-gong):
Stretches
Breathwork
Movements to stimulate/improve
Joint flexibility
Circulation
Posture
Relaxation

The second half of class is the practice of stationary movements taken from the 2000-year-old practice of Tai Chi. Each movement is repeated 3-5 times to each side using either gentle forward-back or side-to-side rocking motions.
These moves help improve:
Balance
Brain health (stimulate neural pathways)
Stamina
Core Strength

Gentle Tai Chi Sequences

Kaleidoscope Dance

$12.00

Zoom now available!
https://www.kaleidoscope-ballroom.com/class-registration

Gentle Tai Chi Sequences is slightly more rigorous than the Gentle Tai Chi-Qigong class. Individual moves from Easy Tai Chi-Qigong are combined in continuous fluid sequences that are stationary.

This class starts with 15 minutes of Qigong (Chee-gong) warm-up activities that are a subset of those used in Gentle Tai Chi-Qigong.

The remainder of the class is spent working on sequences of moves from Gentle Tai Chi. Each sequence consists of moves with similar philosophical concepts.

Working on a sequence provides the additional health benefits that come from: Memorization, Fluidity of motion, Transition from move to move, Extended stamina, Correctness of arm and body position.

STEP 1 Social Ballroom

Kaleidoscope Dance

$12.00

These are our “introductory” classes where timing and basic steps for 2 styles of dance are introduced. They are great for those just getting started in ballroom as well as those who have some ballroom background but would like to learn more about a style.

Each class covers 2 styles. The same 2 styles are taught for 4 consecutive weeks. Examples include waltz/rumba, swing/foxtrot, and cha cha/tango. Each of the 4 weeks stands on its own. So, even though it is highly recommended, it is not necessary to attend all 4 weeks.

The first week of every 4-week series teaches the history, timing, and basic step for the dance style. In addition, one or two other steps are taught. Each week after that starts with a short review of the timing and basic step followed by instruction for several additional steps different from the previous weeks.

This months dance style is Swing/Foxtrot
Taught by Trudy & Kevin Sherman

$12 drop-in per class
$40 for a 4-punch card, good for 60 days

Punch Card can be used for all Social Ballroom classes
We will not rotate partners. If you need a dance partner, contact us and we will see if we can match you up with someone. Be sure to call or register ahead of time to reserve your spot.

1- Wall Line Dance

Kaleidoscope Dance

$12.00

Zoom now available!
https://www.kaleidoscope-ballroom.com/class-registration

This line dance class is for all ages and abilities. There are no turns and all steps are done facing the front wall. As with other line dances, each person dances by themself with the dancers arranged in rows (lines), all facing the same direction. The dances consist of a sequence of moves that are repeated throughout the song. The instructor cues the upcoming moves so memorizing the sequence is not required.

No previous dance experience is necessary. The details of each step in a sequence will be taught and practiced before dancing to music. Usually, each dance will be danced first to a slower song and then again to a faster one. The line dances taught will have 3 to 8 steps in the sequence. All dances will be done facing forward only (one wall). However, options will be provided for those who might want the challenge of adding turns.

Most of the dances taught are popular country line dances. However, they have been modified to take the turns out. Usually, the country music is replaced by upbeat popular music, both new and old. Singing or humming along is an option.

This class is for those who meet any of the following criteria:
1) are new to dance or line dance
2) would like to “keep it simple” while dancing
3) enjoy dancing in a group
4) would like to line dance to a variety of music (not just country).
This class is a great way to get some dance exercise while having fun!
