Details

Saturday August 24th
The Walters Art Museum
600 N Centre St. (main entrance)
Baltimore City

1 block SW of the Washington monument. (NOT mt. Washington !)

Although partially closed for renovation (the closure affects mostly ancient art and European art galleries), the Walters Art Museum offers a comprehensive panorama of the decorative arts during the last 4500 years (from ancient Egypt to contemporary) and spanning all continents (except Antarctica).

Meet at 10:40 at the main entrance in Centre St;

Look for the small ‘flag on a stick’ to find the group.

Spend 5 minutes getting acquainted and I plan to enter the museum at 10:45 on the dot.

Please be respectful of everybody else’s time and do not be late.

Admission: free

For more information about the exhibits see: thewalters.org

Getting there by public transportation:

  • From south (Glen Burnie/BWI)

Take light rail to Mt.Vernon stop (aka Centre Street stop), then walk ~ 5 blocks on Centre St.

or take light rail, then Charm City Circulator (purple line, stop 307) then walk ~ 2 blocks

Transit time from the terminals is about 1 hour.

Trains leave each terminal every 30 minutes

  • From north (Hunt Valley)

Take light rail then walk ~ 5 blocks

Transit time from the terminal is about 50 minutes.

Trains leave the terminal every 15 minutes.

  • From east or west (and points in between)

You have to figure out which is your local bus line into downtown. the silver, green, yellow, pink lines of the MTA stop near the museum, as do the 95, 51 and 103 busses and the purple line of the Circulator (tip: the Circulator is a free ride). Check schedule and routes at https://www.mta.maryland.gov before boarding the bus, as my information might be out of date.

Getting there by car:

There is a parking garage next to the museum; 20$ per car per day, subject to availability.

There is a cafe inside the museum and many eateries in the area.

Optional after the visit: leisurely stroll downhill to the harbor.

This event will go on rain-or-shine, but (just in case) check back the meetup conversation page after 19:00 on the day before the due date.
