A Sampler of Non-Ashkenazi Jewish Music

BJCC Vice President Bob Jacobson will provide a guided listening session of Jewish music and secular music performed by Jews from Central Asia and the former Ottoman Empire, using videos and audio examples. Bob will point out some ways in which music from these regions differs from klezmer and the other Ashkenazi music we are already familiar with, and learn about the history of Jews in Central Asia, Arab countries and the Balkans, and their migration to the United States. Bob is a retired social worker and a local musician.
