Community Men's Circle

Details

With this circle, BPS aims to provide an intentionally safe and supportive space for anyone identifying as a man (cis men, trans men, anyone who was indoctrinated into masculinity regardless of gender). The meetings will be facilitated by Hyun and Gabe. We are offering 2 men's circles per month - one in person and one online. Note that this is not an integration circle, but feel free to bring issues that your experiences helped surface into this space.

Our society does not offer men emotional support and a safe space to be vulnerable, so we believe that such a space is needed. A space to find the balance between our sacred masculine and sacred feminine natures, learn their relationship to each other, and accept them both without shame. A space to openly share what we are facing and feeling and be supported through it. When we are talking about relationships, grief, depression, love, trauma, anger, joy, and other things that evoke strong feelings, it's important for men to be able to show our emotions and not have to suppress everything all the time. We have both personally struggled with this and understand the difficulty in expressing yourself when we've been conditioned for so long to "be strong" and "suppress, suppress, suppress." This men's circle is here to provide a compassionate, judgement free, and accepting environment for anyone that chooses to attend. We may also incorporate some movement and simple breathing practices to help everyone settle into the space. It is open to men of all races, ages, backgrounds, sexualities, experiences, etc.

The men's circle is free to attend and will be held at St. Luke's Church on the Avenue in the room directly behind the main sanctuary. We will start the meeting with introductions, guidelines, and move into a grounding exercise to help us all settle into the space.
Masks will not be required during the event, but wear what makes you comfortable. Please be respectful of the boundaries and distance of others. The church has chairs, but if you'd prefer to bring something else to sit on, please do so.

To be clear, we are not trained professionals. We are not therapists, psychologists, or psychiatrists. We are individuals that believe in the power of support. We are here to try and normalize the idea that it's okay to ask for help and be vulnerable, which men often struggle with. By having a place for men to potentially start healing themselves, we can start to help our friends, families, and communities. If you do decide to attend, we encourage you to come with an open heart and mind.

Note: This circle is not religiously affiliated.
