Genshiken FAQ Page

Welcome to the Genshiken Fact Page and Guidelines for the group. We hope to answer all your questions here, but you are welcome to contact one of the organizers if questions still remain.

I’ve just joined. Do I have to pay any fees?

-There are no group fees for Genshiken. However, if you attend an event that is at a public place (restaurants, movie theater, etc.) you will be expected to pay your own way. Also, events held at someone’s home… well, it’s not required to bring anything, but that’s common courtesy.

Can I attend any event?

-Sure! Any event on MeetUp is open to any member of the group. We just ask that you ONLY sign up unless you actually plan to attend. Many of our meetups are in someone’s home or a place that needs reservation. Don’t worry, we don’t bite. We’re just geeks like you trying to come out of our shell and have fun with other geeks.

*NOTE* There are ways to cap an event to a certain amount of people, and stop RSVP at least 24 hours out. Just contact one of the organizers if you would like to do this for an event.

I have an idea for an event, who do I tell?

-If you have ideas for future events, please post them! The best place to do that is the Message Board tab (located under the Discussions tab at the top of the page). If you actually want to host, go ahead and create the meetup event as a suggested meetup. Once three people join the event, it becomes an official event for the group.

What if what I want to do doesn’t specifically have to do with anime?

-We are a very diverse group that aren’t ONLY interested in Anime and Manga, so bring out your ideas! Whether it’s an Asian cuisine restaurant, a new sci-fi/ fantasy movie coming out, or maybe you just want the group to come together and go bowling, within this group I’m sure you’ll find enough people wanting to attend.

Some Guidelines

What to post as an event:

There are plenty of conventions, festivals and concerts that happen within the area that people from Genshiken may be interested in. If you would like to host an event there, by all means create a meetup event. But, if you just want to let people know about it, but do not plan to have an actual meetup, please do not create an event. Just contact one of the organizers and we can add it to our group’s main calendar as something cool for people to know about, or just add onto the Message Board. Who knows, someone else may want to create a meetup event.

Hosting:

Anyone can create and host an event. That being said, do not create an event that you do not plan to actually host. Your event should also include a date, time, and location so that others can plan. It’s great to have an idea, but it will just stay an idea unless you actually add information for people that want to participate. If before the event you realize that you cannot attend or host, please make sure to see if anyone else is willing to host. If not, please cancel the event and be courteous with a little explanation.

*NOTE* If you are interested in hosting an event with Genshiken (whether at your home or anywhere else), please attend a couple of meetups first so that people will know who you are. That will go a long way in people wanting to attend also!

Basic Common Courtesies:

-Events should be fun and stress free for everyone.

-Treat other members with respect.

-If you feel that you are being harassed by another member or you are made to feel uncomfortable in a situation please, please, PLEASE report it to one of the organizers.

If you have suggestions for how to improve Genshiken, please let us know.
