Azerbaijan is an intriguing nation that, like its Caucasian neighbors, is not really of either Europe or Asia, having absorbed elements of each while remaining unique. With its blazing hillsides, ancient temples, and the grandeur of Baku, this fascinating tiny country is both unusual and enigmatic. Our 8-day trip starts in Baku, the capital, which is an oddly pleasing blend of Soviet design, historic architecture, and contemporary construction.

Beyond the contemporary splendor of this metropolis is an entirely distinct nation. Highways take the place of high-rises, and every few kilometers, the landscape changes.
