Bio:
Soon How is a Solutions Engineer at Confluent Singapore. He engages with organizations on their data modernisation journey in various areas such as data streaming, observability and cyber security. He has worked with organisations in the Public Sector, Financial Services as well as other SMEs in the SEA region.

Talk:
Data Mesh

Abstract:
Data mesh is a new approach for designing modern data architectures by embracing organizational constructs as well as data-centric ones, data management, governance, etc. The idea is that data should be easily accessible and interconnected across the entire business.
Similar to the way that microservices are a set of principles for designing modern software architectures, data mesh is a much newer concept that’s so early in its evolution.

Bio:
Johan has been building data pipelines based on Apache Kafka for more than a decade and joined Agoda 4 years ago to help scaling the company's rapidly growing data platform.

Pattarapon "Poom" Kittisrisawai, Associate Data Engineer, Agoda

Bio:
Poom completed a 2-month internship at Agoda Kafka team during 2021 and subsequently joined the team as a full-time data engineer earlier this year.

Talk:
Kafka monitoring and operational tooling projects at Agoda

Abstract:
In this talk we will describe two examples of Kafka tooling projects that significantly improved the way Agoda is able to operate Kafka at scale.
1. Monitoring consumer lag using time instead of message offsets
2. Automating Kafka cluster operations with Cruise Control
Both projects were successfully completed by students during internships at Agoda's Kafka team and Poom will additionally share some tips on how to go from zero Kafka experience to Kafka fluency within a short period of time.
