The Russians Are Coming the Russians Are Coming (1966) Nominated for 4 Oscars

Details

When a sightseeing Soviet commander runs his submarine aground off the New England coast, the crew’s attempts to find a boat to dislodge them almost starts World War III. In his first major film role, Alan Arkin leads an all-star cast—including Carl Reiner, Eva Marie Saint, Brian Keith and Jonathan Winters—in this uproarious Cold War comedy classic!

Russian Lt. Rozanov (Arkin) and his crew hit the beaches of Massachusetts unaware of the panic they’re about to start. Despite the Russians’ harmless intentions, the folks in town think a full-scale Soviet invasion has been launched! What’s worse, their police chief (Keith) has left his hysterical assistant (Winters) in charge…and the one man who knows the truth (Reiner) is only stirring up more chaos! The great Norman Jewison (In the Heat of the Night, The Thomas Crown Affair) directs this riotously funny film.

Nominated for 4 Academy Awards for 1966: Best Director (Jewison), Best Actor (Arkin), Best Adapted Screenplay (Rose) and Best Film Editing (Hal Ashby and J. Terry Williams).

About the Venue
The Friese-Greene Club is a small, private member's club in Bangkok. It is dedicated to people who have a passion for cinema; filmmakers, film students, film journalists, or film enthusiasts. The club serves Thai and Western food, including pizzas, burgers and snacks. It has a reasonably-priced bar.

Schedule
The bar opens at 7:00 PM. Snacks and food are available. The movie showings are at 8:00 PM. The movies are free for members but non-members can try out this fantastic cinema for free for a while without being a member.

Seats
This is Bangkok's smallest cinema but it's my favorite. You could even say it has a "First Class" section (free). The Screening Room has the same type of plush seats used for regular seating by the Major Cineplex and SF Cinema City chains. The technical projection standards match the chains, with surround sound and HD projection.
There are nine (9) of these "First Class" seats and they may be booked (reserved seating) on the cinema's website. The rest of the seats are non-reserved.

Here is the link to book a reserved seat:

Go to: fgc.in.th
Then click on 'FILMS' at the top
Then click on 'BOOK A SEAT'

*** BE SURE TO BOOK ONE OF THESE NINE SEATS EARLY ***
The other two floors contain regular seats and large-screen TVs, which show the same movie as the Screening Room.

Film Discussion
After the movies, the attendees gather in the bar to discuss the showing. Because you will meet "regulars" there who are avid classic movie fans, you will find interesting discussions. Also, the cinema owner, Paul Spurrior, was a British former child movie actor. He lives and works in Thailand as a writer-director. Ask him a question about any movie and he can tell you anything about that movie!
